President

Brooke Smith

Greetings! Spring is here! And by spring, I mean the weather forecast says it’s going to snow one day and be pleasant the next day.  If you’re like me, your heater will be on in the morning, AC on in the afternoon, and windows open for a nice breeze in the evening.  Cheers to the three different seasons we routinely see in less than 24 hours during a typical Utah spring day.

BIG NEWS! Our very own Zac Christensen is one of the candidates running for the national NIGP Member Council. If you are a national NIGP member, I encourage you to vote! Member council voting closes on April 13 and there are 4 seats open https://www.nigp.org/membership/benefits.    If you are not a member of NIGP, I encourage you to register at https://www.nigp.org/membership/join  and join a network with over 16,000 professionals working in the field of Public Procurement.

Our next big event on our calendar is the REVERSE TRADE SHOW (RTS).

The event is scheduled on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (sign-in starting at 8:00 am) at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, UT.  The RTS is a convenient place for you to meet with new and existing vendors that may be able to help your agency and network with other government agencies in the area.

The RTS is our biggest fundraising event of the year, and we need you there to be successful. This year, we will have an excellent keynote address given by leadership expert, Frank Kitchen. We also have planned multiple breakout sessions and new this year, we will be serving both breakfast and lunch.  Also, if you register to attend before Friday, April 22 you will be eligible to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

This event is FREE for government agency employees to attend but you do need to register. However, as an additional fundraiser, we are asking the Utah Chapter of NIGP members/agencies to donate at least one item valued at least $25 to use in our Silent Auction. All proceeds of the silent auction will go towards additional professional development opportunities and scholarships for chapter members.

Silent Auction Items donated so far:

Two doTERRA gift baskets ($125 value), Golf Tec Swing Analysis ($125 value), Three Wise Owl Outfitters Camping Portable Hammock ($35/each value), Eight one-day passes to Splash Summit ($25/each value), NIGP Forum Registration ($399 value), Autographed t-shirt from Kindig It Design (priceless), Certified signed autographed Bojan Bogdanovic # 44 of Utah Jazz photo (priceless), 6 Salt Lake BEES ticket vouchers, Two 18 hole Golf Course passes for Parkway Murray ($72 value), Oil Paint Night Kit ($35 value), AND Autographed Football from UofU coach Kyle Whittingham (priceless). 😉

Our Reverse Trade Show is an event you won’t want to miss and we hope to see you there. NIGP and the chapter board are committed to keeping you engaged, learning, and growing.  I encourage you to consider volunteering for any of our committees or even run for a board position this fall. We have much to learn from each other, and many of our best ideas and suggestions come from you.  Pass it on!

For National Procurement Month, a new award was created for those public procurement professionals who have gone "ABOVE & BEYOND" in the past year.

Congratulations to Tonya Hodges of Jordan School District for receiving one of three of the Above & Beyond Awards for 2022 by the National Cooperative Procurement Partners (NCPP).

Toilet Paper

Recently KSL wrote an article about Public Procurement at it's finest.
When a 4th grader started a petition because 'The toilet paper feels like sandpaper'
the Granite School District procurement officials had to get to the bottom of it. ;-)
Check out this adorable article from KSL here!
