Utah Chapter President’s Message June 2021

Dear Utah Chapter NIGP Members,

I can hardly believe it’s June already!  Even with a pandemic, time seems to fly.  We know many of you are busy as fiscal year end approaches and schools wind up another school year.  We hope you’ll find time to breathe once in a while and get a break, however small, this summer.

Our next Brown Bag learning seminar with the State of Utah will be held on Thursday, June 17th.  We hope you’ll make time to join us.

We want to announce a change to one of our chapter sponsored virtual courses.  Here is the lineup we currently have available:
*New Date* July 27-28, 2021 (2-Day): Core Certificate- Foundations of Planning & Analysis
August 10, 2021 (1/2 Day): Competency Module- Specification Development
October 12, 2021 91 Day): Competency Module- Cost, Price & Value Analysis

We hope you’ll consider participating in one or more of these professional development opportunities.  A portion of class fees will be returned to the chapter and used to provide scholarship assistance to our chapter members.  If you need financial assistance to participate in these courses, please let us know and we’ll get you information on our next scholarship period that you can apply for.  Please take the opportunity to apply!  We do have funds available and want to help our members with their educational and career endeavors.

We will be opening registration this summer for our Fall Virtual Procurement Conference on September 16, 2021.  Please let your vendors know to watch for registration details and encourage them to participate.  Vendors will be able to attend and/or sponsor the conference, and funds earned from them will help us pay for costs associated with our in person Reverse Trade Show that we hope to have in Spring 2022.  We appreciate your help in getting the word out to our vendor communities.

Thanks to those that participated in our survey recently on Certificate and Degree options in conjunction with Southern Utah University.  Your feedback has been invaluable, and SUU is currently drawing up ideas on how we can move forward with either certificate or degree programs.  We’ll be working with them for the next several months to create programs that will be helpful to you as our chapter members.  We’ll get you details on the programs as soon as we can get them drawn up and in place.  We are excited for these new educational and certificate opportunities to become available.

Please enjoy your upcoming summer plans with family and friends.  We appreciate each of you and the fantastic job you do every day.  We look forward to meeting with you again in person in November.

Have a fantastic day!

Yours Sincerely,

Tonya Hodges
Utah Chapter NIGP President
